Do You Know These Strategies For Improving Your Golf Swings?
22. October 2010 by Tee It Up Pro Shop.
Yes, we know - maybe your golf swing leaves little to be desired, and you want to do something about it. Right? Suspend any disbelief because this very article can offer you something good in that department. We’ll be covering several effective strategies that you can take and actually improve your golf swing. No matter what you learn, it’s useless if you don’t take any action - so be sure to practice early and often. You want to develop kinesthetic and muscle memories that automatically know what to do and how to do it best. Golfing has its own special rewards reserved for those who are willing to put some devotion into improving.
Most people automatically assume that one has to hit the ball harder when going into the wind, and that is a falsehood. You do not want the ball to rise high into the wind with spin, and that is what happens when you hit it hard. So what actually suffers, in addition to your mental state, is the ball will be harder to control; plus your accuracy will go down the drain. What you want to do is make the ball closer to your stance by about a couple inches. Also, you want to make sure your hands are kept forward. So for your club in this situation, you’ll want to use one that is longer than usual. Do not hit the ball harder, rather hit it just as you would without the wind. After doing it, come back and tell us how much better your accuracy plus greater control… we’ll wait.
When hitting the ball, be sure to focus on hitting through and down. You’ll have to follow through to get the club to lift, and that will make the ball lift. The ball will not rise because you somehow tried to do an upswing motion on the club. Just don’t do that because it’s the wrong way to hit the ball. There are a range of effects including hitting the ball just a little distance with too much height - head’s up! You can avoid the pain of seeing the ball go fairly straight - only up, and then gravity takes over and it comes straight down, head’s up again!
Back to windy conditions - remember to lighten up a little on the swing; and then swing easier. Keep in mind that hitting excessively hard in windy conditions can adversely affect your trajectory and that opens up a whole can of worms. When it’s windy, keep in mind the phrase made famous by Greg Norman - “swing easy into the breezy.” It seems common sense that when you’re hitting into the wind, well… just hit it harder. Remember, there’s all kinds of forces and aerodynamic principles at play - swing easy, golfer… trust us. Swinging easy helps you to maintain control over the ball. Just remember that handy phrase and you’ll be fine on the windy days.
As you know, with golf there are a thousand different methods and philosophies. Try to avoid letting golf get your blood pressure up, and then go out there and have a helluva great time on the course. If you know you did your best, and you keep improving your golf swing, then that’s enough and that’s great. Every golfer wants a perfect golf swing with lots of power - fine, go get it and work on it. Sure, knowledge is important and great, but you have to practice on your swing as much as possible. We hope you found these golf swing tips helpful for improving your swing.

Beginner Golfers- Learn The Difference Between Chipping And Pitching
29. July 2010 by Tee It Up Pro Shop.
As a professional golf coach, I’m constantly being asked by beginner golf players: What is the difference between a chip and a pitch? The two shots can be defined in many ways, so lets discuss the difference between the two shots and when you’d decide to play them.
The first way a chip or pitch shot can be categorized is by the distance of the shot. Not by the total yardage of the shot but by the distance you are from the edge of the green. A chip shot can be categorized as a short game shot that is played within 10 metres of the greens edge. To futher qualify the difference between the two, the flight of the golf ball must be considered. A short shot with a wedge that carries more than 50% of the total distance is considered a pitch shot. Under 50% will be a chip shot. You need to consider which club you are going to use. Pitch shots are generally played with a lofted club, usually one of your wedges. Chipping can also be done with a lofted wedge but the flight of the shot must be considered when deciding, as per the last rule.
The next thing to consider is the type of swing that is employed. I apologise if this is too technical for new golfers: a chip shot will be a shot where no or minimal wrist movement is employed and the club won’t get past hip height. To take the club back further without employing wrist cock and elbow fold would be extremely uncomfortable for any player. Therefore, to swing further the wrists and elbows must be used to increase leverage. When the club is swinging past the hips it is considered a pitch shot.
Now that all the qualifiers are out the way let’s discuss how to learn each shot. Believe or not a pitch shot is best learnt by doing a chip shot first. In a basic chipping action, little or no wrist or elbows are used. The club is moved primarily from the rotation of the body; back and forward. A pitch shot employs the same body rotation, as the hands move back over the trail foot the wrists and trail elbow start to cock and fold respectively as the body continues to rotate. The club is now levered into a supported position that has enough power and loft to flight the ball for a pitch shot. The same rotary movement is used to deliver the clubhead back to impact and the follow through. At no stage during the downswing does the body stop rotating and the hands flick at the ball. The rotation delivers the blow. This concept is one of the hardest for beginner golf players to grasp. Hopefully now you understand the difference between a chip and a pitch.
Correcting Slice – Is It Possible?
15. July 2010 by Tee It Up Pro Shop.
For many golfers the frustration of seeing your ball slice to the right on a regular basis is too much to handle often resulting in slamming your clubs into the ground in anger – or kicking your bag!.
Fortunately and un-fortunately there are many factors that can cause the slice, Fortunately because all these things can be fixed, when identified.
And un-fortunately because identifying them is the hard part and with the vast number of training aids and professional opinions that all seem to differ it can leave the golfer not knowing which way to turn for advice.
That was the position I was in, I had a slice for around 10 years that was until I found a system that lead to me correcting slice.
A problem that i suffered from and what was helping to cause my slice shots was not lining up correctly with the ball.
It’s common sense that if you are not lined up correctly you will not be able to hit the ball in the direction you want it to travel.
The good news is that if you suffer from not lining up correctly it is quite easy to fix and even easier to diagnose.
Firstly when you line up to hit a ball get a buddy to place an iron at the end of your feet, then step back and have a look at the direction your feet are pointing.
When you look down the club on the floor if it points in the direction you want the golf ball to travel in you are lining up correctly. If the club is not lined up correctly this is going to cause some problems with your game and needs addressing asap. The way i was told to fix the issue with not lining up correctly was to go to the range and put a golf club on the floor pointing straight down the range and then line your feet up to it. At first this will seem strange but you will soon get used to it, after long you will line up to the ball correctly and hopefully this will go some way to correcting slice shots in your game.
You can also use this technique when you next play on the course, you may look a little silly but at least you will be lining up to the golf ball correctly and hopefully hitting the ball straight down the fairway.
I hope this article has been helpful to you, if you want to know more about how I fixed my slice please click here correcting slice.
I wish you all the best in your quest of becoming a better golfer.
