Taking Good Care Of Your Golf Clubs

Ask any keen golfer and they will probably tell you they spent a reasonable amount on their clubs. Although as the number of manufacturers over the years has risen and some sets of clubs have become more affordable, even for beginners a full set of good quality golf clubs and a bag can be a rather costly purchase.

It’s therefore important that you make sure you take good care of your golf clubs to prevent damage and other wear and tear can affect their performance. If taken care of while in use and storage, golf clubs generally don’t need too much maintenance to make sure they remain in good condition. Many irons have grooves on the face of the club which are important to keep clean from being filled with either mud or sand.

There are special golf club cleaners that have brushes and picks designed to help clear these grooves and to make sure your clubs remain clean and don’t get damaged.  For a bit of dirt normally a nylon brush will do the job, with a plastic spike to clear the grooves fully.  For more stubborn dirt you could use a wire brush on the club but be careful when using this as it may damage some club heads if applied excessively.

As well as keeping your clubs clean, storing them correctly is important to ensure that they do not get damaged.  A golf bag is likely to be one of the first things you buy along with your clubs. What you need is a tough hard case that is light enough to carry unless you also invest in or hire a trolley or buggy for the bag to sit on taking the strain out of carrying your clubs round the course.

Leaving your clubs open to the elements when on a rainy course can damage the rubber grips over time which will have to be replaced at some point.  A cover or hood for the clubs is important as well as protective covers for drivers as they can be sensitive to bumps and knocks.

Some golfers choose to buy covers for all their clubs and among them include neoprene covers that fit each club specifically whilst allowing enough room for variance in club styles and shapes.

For peace of mind and for golfers wishing to ensure their equipment is protected, it may well be worth considering taking out a golf insurance policy.  Good golf equipment insurance policies will not only cover your clubs but also a number of other incidents potentially outside your control relating to personal injury and property damage. Golf buggy insurance can also be provided as an additional policy.

We’ve all heard the jokes about greenhouses being smashed by errant golf balls but with golf insurance you won’t have to worry about these concerns and be able to focus 100% on chasing that personal best or even a hole in one!
